Choosing a care home can be a daunting experience for many loved ones and residents. Creating relationships with the individuals and their loved ones is important. Providing a listening ear and a non-judgemental approach is imperative.
A person is not just a person, they are an individual and Tanglewood work to provide a holistic approach to their care. This involves families and friends, it is important that they also feel supported.
We have an open door policy in our homes and effective communication, we listen to our residents and their loved ones, we are open and honest to build trust and confidence in the service we provide. We aim to alleviate anxiety by having all the correct foundations in place.
Meet Brian Robinson our newest resident here at Avocet House. He was born and raised in Boston dedicating his life to his wife, two daughters and his career as a social worker.
Before joining us at Avocet House in July 2023, Brian’s wife was his full-time carer at home, which made the decision of choosing a home that bit harder. When Brian’s daughters visited Avocet House, it was vital to them, like it is to all loved ones and family members, that their father would be well cared for and comfortable in his new surroundings.
Since being with us at Avocet House, Brian has taken everything in his stride, he has joined in with almost every activity (even the ones his family didn’t think he would like) and has put his skills from years of being a social worker to good use, by helping other residents either with activities or just sitting down with them and having a chat.
Brian’s family commented, ‘It’s so nice to see our dad getting involved and settling in, we couldn’t be happier.’
We are so pleased to have had Brian join us at Avocet, Lifestyle Lead Vickie commented, ‘Brian is a wonderful new resident in the home, he always has a smile and enjoys chatting and getting involved. I have really enjoyed getting to know Brian, and watching him settle into his new home, making new friends and memories.’
